Search Intent:

Search intent refers to the reason a person has decided to ask a question through a search engine. In other words, the search intent is an objective someone has for their research.

Understanding your audience’s search intent is crucial to knowing what you need to include in your content.

When it comes to search intent, there are three, basic types you need to know:

  1. Informational: This is the most common type of search intent. In short, this intent is focused on looking for information one may have questions on or when they want to learn more about a certain topic.
  2. Transactional: This refers to people who are browsing with the intent to purchase something, whether it be an item, subscription, etc.
  3. Navigational: This type of intent is focused on people who are searching for a specific site. For example, they may enter “Etsy” in a search engine to reach the Etsy site.

Search Engine Journal shares more information on how to optimize content for each type of search.
