X Chat messages arrive in Social Inbox encrypted, and you unlock them with the X account's X Chat PIN to read them. Social Inbox includes X on Professional and Suite.
Unlock X Chat messages
- Click Social Inbox in the left-side menu.
- Click the X Chat message you want to read. It shows Encrypted X Chat message.
- Click Unlock X Chat to read it here.
- Enter the X account's X Chat PIN.
- Click Unlock.
Each wrong PIN counts toward X's limit on PIN attempts. Too many wrong PINs lock X Chat recovery for the X account on every device.
Attachments
After you unlock a message, its attachments show with it:
- Images appear in the message. Click an image to see it larger.
- Videos show Play video with the file size. Click it to play the video.
- Other files show the file name and size. Click it to download the file.
If an attachment doesn't load, click Try again.
Links in a message can be clicked. Social Inbox doesn't show link previews.
After you unlock
- Unlocked messages and their attachments stay readable until you reload or leave Social Inbox. After that, unlock X Chat again.
- Before you unlock, edits and reactions also show as encrypted messages. After you unlock, they show on the message they change, so the list gets shorter.
- The PIN stays in your browser. CoSchedule never receives or stores it.
- CoSchedule stores attachments encrypted and can't open them. They're decrypted in your browser.
- Each teammate unlocks X Chat in their own browser, so each teammate needs the PIN.
- Reply as you would to any other item. Your reply appears in the X Chat conversation on X.
What doesn't come through from X Chat
- Group X Chats don't come into Social Inbox.
- Attachments over 64 MB. The message says the file is too large to show here.
- Shared posts and other attachments that aren't an image, video or file.
- X Chat messages sent before October 27, 2026 show only as a notice and can't be unlocked.
- In the list of items and in notifications, X Chat messages show the encrypted notice, not the message text.
Open X to see it opens the conversation on X.
If X direct messages don't appear
X accounts connected before March 5, 2025 don't get direct messages in Social Inbox until they're reconnected. Reconnect the account, then check Social Inbox again. See Reconnect a social profile.
