Image, video and GIF sizes for social messages

Each social network accepts different image, video and GIF formats and sizes. Check your files against the limits below before you schedule a message. They apply on every plan, including the free plan.

What CoSchedule adjusts for you

When CoSchedule publishes directly to Instagram, it converts images in other formats to JPEG and resizes images that are wider than Instagram allows.

What the network changes when it publishes

  • Facebook: a .gif file publishes as a still JPEG image. To post a moving GIF, upload it as an MP4 video.
  • TikTok: images are converted to JPEG.
  • Mastodon: images are scaled down to 1.6 megapixels, and videos and animated GIFs are converted to MP4.

What makes a message fail

Check these before you schedule:

  • A video file larger than the network allows
  • A video longer or shorter than the network allows
  • A video frame rate outside the network's range
  • A LinkedIn GIF over the pixel limit
  • More than 10 images or videos in an Instagram carousel

If a message still fails, remove the media, upload it again from your computer, and reschedule. See Fix image and video errors in social messages.
