Connect an Instagram Business or Creator account

Connect an Instagram Business or Creator account to your calendar so you can schedule and publish to it from CoSchedule. Instagram publishing is available on Starter, Professional and Suite.

Only Instagram Business and Creator accounts can connect. Instagram doesn't let tools like CoSchedule connect or publish to personal accounts. If you try to connect a personal account, Instagram asks you to convert it first.

Before you start

The Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account. It doesn't need to be linked to a Facebook Page. If your Instagram account is a personal account, switch it in the Instagram app first. Instagram explains how:

Connect your Instagram account

  1. On a desktop or laptop, open a private or incognito browser window.
  2. Log in to your calendar.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Click the Social Profiles tab, then click Connect Social Profile.
  5. Select Instagram, then click Let's Connect.
  6. Log in with the username and password for the Instagram account you want to connect.
  7. Grant all permissions and follow the prompts until the account is connected.

If you don't see the account you want, or you get an error, see the sections below.

Connect a second Instagram account

If Instagram keeps choosing an account you already connected, or the wrong account connects:

  1. Log out of every Instagram account in your browser.
  2. Open a private or incognito browser window.
  3. In one tab, log in to Instagram with only the account you want to add.
  4. In another tab of the same window, log in to your calendar.
  5. Connect the account from Settings > Social Profiles.

Fix connection errors

Future activity is turned off in Meta Accounts Center

If the error says future activity is turned off for your account, turn future activity back on for your Instagram account in Meta Accounts Center, then connect the account to your calendar again. Meta explains how in Manage your future activity off Meta technologies.

400 Session Invalid

This error comes from Instagram. Log out of Instagram, open a private or incognito window, and try again. If it keeps happening, wait a while and try again later.

The account is already linked

If Instagram says the account is already linked, remove CoSchedule-IG from the account's connected apps in the Instagram mobile app. Then connect the account again from a private or incognito window.

Permissions are missing

Make sure the account accepted every permission CoSchedule asked for. In the account's apps and websites settings on Instagram, check that every permission for the CoSchedule-IG app is turned on.

It still won't connect

  • Check that the account is a Business or Creator account.
  • Try again in a private or incognito window, logged in to only the Instagram account you're connecting.
  • If it still fails, check the Instagram Help Center.

Reconnect an Instagram account

Only the calendar Owner, a Manager or an Admin can reconnect a profile. An email from CoSchedule saying a connection has expired is genuine; it links to Settings > Social Profiles in your calendar.

  1. On a desktop or laptop, open a private or incognito window.
  2. Log in to your calendar.
  3. Open Settings, then click the Social Profiles tab.
  4. Click the Instagram account.
  5. Click Reconnect Account and follow the prompts.

You can't reconnect from the CoSchedule mobile app. Use a desktop or laptop browser.

Messages that failed while the account was disconnected don't resend on their own. Reschedule them after you reconnect.

If the account keeps asking to be reconnected, remove CoSchedule-IG from the account's connected apps on Instagram, then reconnect. If every profile fails at once, the network may be having an outage: wait before you reset passwords or reconnect.

Remove an Instagram account

Removing a profile deletes its scheduled, sent and ReQueue messages and its social template messages in CoSchedule, on every calendar. Posts already published stay on the network.

  1. Log in to your calendar.
  2. Open Settings, then click the Social Profiles tab.
  3. In the left-side menu, click the Instagram account you want to remove.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Delete Profile from Organization.
  5. When asked "Are you sure you want to remove this profile?", type DELETE PROFILE to confirm.
