Use this article when a LinkedIn message fails, or shows as published but isn't visible on LinkedIn. It applies to LinkedIn profiles and Pages on every plan, including the free plan.
Check whether CoSchedule is still trying
When LinkedIn doesn't accept a message because of a temporary error, CoSchedule tries again, up to 7 attempts over about 45 minutes. Permanent errors fail right away, and a failed message doesn't resend on its own.
Fix a failed message
- Open the failed message and read the red error.
- Fix the cause. The sections below cover the common ones.
- Reschedule the message. See Reschedule a social message.
The profile or Page needs reconnecting
LinkedIn connections renew automatically, so you'll usually reconnect a LinkedIn profile or Page only about once a year. If a message failed because the connection ended, reconnect the profile or Page, then reschedule the message. See Reconnect a social profile.
To reconnect a Page, you must be a Super Admin of the Page on LinkedIn. Log in to LinkedIn in another tab as a Super Admin, then reconnect from a private or incognito window.
If someone who isn't a Super Admin reconnects a Page, the reconnect looks successful, but the Page still can't publish. Have a Super Admin of the Page reconnect it.
A document post shows as published but isn't on LinkedIn
LinkedIn's spam filtering hides some posts with a PDF or other document after LinkedIn receives them. The message shows as published in CoSchedule, but the post doesn't appear on LinkedIn, or LinkedIn shows "This post cannot be displayed." CoSchedule can't change what LinkedIn's filter hides.
- Send the post again as a new message, with changed text or a changed document.
- If LinkedIn still hides it, publish that post directly on LinkedIn.
- To ask LinkedIn why the post was hidden, contact LinkedIn Support.
A mention didn't work
You can mention people only when you post from a LinkedIn Page. From a profile, you can't mention other people. To mention a Page or a person, see Mention a user or Page in a social message.
The post is missing something you added
- Images and video are left out of a document post. A post can have a document, or images or a video, not both.
- A post can have up to 20 images. The composer warns you if you add more.
- Audience targeting narrows who sees a Page post, but LinkedIn decides who it's shown to, and people outside the audience can see it if it's reshared. See Target an audience on Facebook or LinkedIn.
If every profile fails at once
When all your profiles fail at the same time, the cause is usually a network outage, not your connections. Check status.coschedule.com before you reconnect anything. Once the problem is fixed, reschedule the messages that failed.
Any other error
Look up the error in Social message errors and what they mean. If it isn't covered there or above:
- Wait for CoSchedule's remaining attempts to finish.
- If the message still fails, reschedule it once.
- If it fails again, contact support.
