A status shows where a project or social message stands and whether it publishes. Available on Starter, Professional and Suite.
Default statuses
Projects and social messages use the same four default statuses:
Status | Publishes? | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
Draft | No | The work is still in progress. |
Pending Review | No | The work needs someone else to review it before it goes live. |
Scheduled | Yes, at its scheduled date and time | The work is finished and ready to go live later. |
Published | Already published | The work has been published, sent or is live. Use it to mark work your team has finished. |
If you set an item dated in the past to Published, it sends right away.
Pending Review is the default name for that status. Your calendar may have renamed it in Settings > Statuses.
How a status changes
A project's status changes only when someone changes it, or when a task rule changes it on Suite. To change a status, click the status button on the project or social message and choose a new one. See Automate tasks with task rules.
Social messages in a project or campaign
Social messages in a social campaign don't have their own status. They follow the status of the project or campaign they're in. If it's set to Draft, none of its messages publish. Set it to Scheduled when you're ready.
Statuses and approvals
Approving a social message doesn't change its status. It keeps the status it had. A message that still needs approval at its scheduled time doesn't publish: CoSchedule tries to send it a few more times, then it fails. See Set up and use social approvals.
Only Scheduled items publish at their scheduled time. Items in Draft or Pending Review never publish on their own.
Custom statuses
On Suite, you can add your own statuses. Each one works like Draft, Scheduled or Published, depending on the type you give it. See Create custom statuses.
